16:00 pm WALKING TOUR - Modern Berlin – A walk through Berlin of the twenty-first century (ca. 2 hours)

Price: 15,- Euro per Person incl. VAT
Meeting Point: Pariser Platz in front of the tourist information point (near the Brandenburg Gate)
The Great Lady of Berlin was dressed in the government district on the gentle curve of the Spree River (the “Spreebogen”) in downtown Berlin. The chancellor and the Members of Parliament adorned her with a new robe while the Media next door put on her makeup as she got ready for her grand entrance to the Reichstag, the German Parliament. This tour will take you along the old path of the Berlin Wall where East meets West and past the Memorial for the European Jews who perished in the Holocaust. You will then go on to the new city within a city, from the Skyscrapers on Potsdamer Platz to the new structures of Leipziger Platz. For those who want more than just a look along the streets of these towering buildings, we recommend taking the fastest elevator in Europe to the top of the Daimler Chrysler Building for a spectacular panoramic view of the city.

Meeting Point: docksite Schiffbauerdamm in the Albrechtstraße opposite Friedrichstraße station, Reederei Grimm & Lindecke
The tour begins near the Nikolaiviertel, where Berlin was founded almost 800 years ago. You will learn about the development of Berlin into an industrial city in the 19th century as you sail down the Spree past the Berliner Dom, the Museum Island and the innovative architectural structures of the parliament buildings and the Bundeskanzleramt, the residence of the German chancellor.
Due to increasing industrialization Berlin did not have the room for expansion it needed within its confining city walls. The city was bursting at it's seams. Real estate prices and rents shot sky high in the workers’ quarters of Moabit, Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Friedrichshain while the people outside the city walls led a life of luxury in their noble Western residences and in the city of Charlottenburg.
The loud, stinking, tumultuous industrial plants of those days have given way to modern service centers and spacious lofts in the twenty-first century. Where the stench along the banks of the Spree River and Landwehr Canal once drove people away they now find attractive beaches, cafes and restaurants at their doorsteps.

20:00 pm Get-Together Party in the GOYA
  goya

The premier social event of the ICCVA and HAI 2008 promises to provide an exceptional evening of entertainment, fine dining and dancing.

The Goya Palace was built in 1905 as a theater in the Art Nouveau style by the architects Boswau & Knauer.

The Goya was almost completely destroyed during World War II but it has been reconstructed to it’s former glory in 2005 by Hans Kolhoff.

At the Goya you will find yourself in a cathedral-sized space with 13-metre ceilings, a main floor spanning 450 square metres, two minstrel galleries housing various bars and and two lounges.

As you would expect with a Kollhof design, the space is full of columns. Every detail is worth examining – the way the walls are lined with fine leather to soften the acoustics, for example. If not elitist the venue certainly aims for one thing: to be special and unique.

This is the perfect location to celebrate our Farewell Party.

Additional fee: 100,- Euro per person incl. VAT
Venue: GOYA, Nollendorfplatz 5, 10777 Berlin / Germany

Limit: 600 persons
